On the 4th of July our ward has a flag ceremony, pancake breakfast and bike parade. This year, Trav, Calissa, and Parker went to the church while Conner and I went to the parade in Pleasant Hill. Conner is in Leadership next year and their class was participating in the parade.
I had a really nice seat in the shade and brought my chair and book along. It is kind of weird to wait for a parade by yourself!
Partway through the parade this helicopter showed up and a guy was hanging out the door waving a big American flag.
This was a church group dressed up as Urban Superheros. They were pretty fun!
Here is Sequoia's group marching for "Street Smarts." They were promoting safe transportation to and from school. There were passing out reflectors that light up as well as pamphlets about the program.
The program provided them with shirts that said "Sequoia Leadership" on the front and had the Street Smart logo on the back. Yes, Conner is wearing two hats and I'm not quite sure why.
Here is his awesome CORE teacher (from 7th grade) and Leadership teacher, Mr. Cook.
Good job Conner!
After meeting up at home and resting for a couple of hours, we headed over to Drew and Tina's to swim and BBQ. It was 102!! I enjoyed reading in the shade and then getting in the pool to cool off every 15 minutes or so.
The boys enjoyed whacking each other with the noodles.
A happy family!
Conner wanted to make sure he stayed afloat!
All the boys enjoyed a game of Volleyball in the pool.
Calissa got Grandpa's shoes off and got him into the water and then Lindsay took care of getting him wet!
Uncle Drew BBQ'd some yummy steak and we had sandwiches, potato salad (that I made), corn on the cob, watermelon, beans, etc. Oh, and we had chocolate ice cream (in case you couldn't tell)! We had a great meal and then swam some more. After putting the cover back on the pool we hung around for an hour or so and then went out back to watch the fireworks from the Singing Flag.
We had a great 4th of July and had fun spending time with Drew and Tina, and Grandma and Grandpa!
